The Deanna Rose Farmstead is a hidden gem in South Overland Park. It is always very clean and a wonderful way to spend the day with your little ones. They will be worn out when you leave. The cow milking demonstration is captivating for little ones and adults. Make sure you bring along extra patience when fishing. Somehow the fish really know how to take the bait and leave you with an empty hook. You literally can spend hours at the farmstead bouncing from activity to activity or you can just go for a walk around the large groups and let your children play on the playground. Either way you are sure to enjoy your trip!

Activities We Suggest:

  • We feel that feeding the animals is always worth it. The cost is minimal and the kids LOVE it. It is a great photo op. Beware though, many of the goats are feisty. Sometimes they will nibble on clothes or shoes and occasionally jump up. If you child is small or uneasy around animals make sure you are with them or holding them.
  • Wagon rides are a good family activity but only really need to be done once.
  • Pony rides are slow but once again a great photo op. For those kids who love horses this is a real treat.
  • Our kids have always loved the fishing whether they catch anything or not. You can spend a lot or a little time doing this.
  • The cow milking demonstration is wonderful and if you can catch it you should. They milk the cow daily at 9:30am and 4:30 pm.

Insider Tips:

  • Bring lots of sunscreen there is hardly any shade.
  • Outside food and drink are not allowed (expect water bottles)
  • Tables are located throughout the park to enjoy snacks.
  • Bring a camera there are numerous moments you will want to catch.
  • Picnic tables are available at the Community Park, 13700 Switzer, located north of the east parking lot.
  • Bring a stroller even if your child is a walker, they will get tired and want a ride. It is also great for tossing your stuff in.
  • If it seems to be particularly busy, start at the old entrance located at the east end of the park and work your way in. You can avoid a lot of congestion.
